Badagry – A Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Tuesday remanded a 30-year-old man, Francis David, in prison pending his sentencing for stealing valuables worth N116, 000.
The Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, sentenced David after he pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing.
Adekomaiya adjourned the case until Aug. 27 for review of facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP. Akpan Nkem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 9 at about 4.00a.m. at Con Oil Filling Station Bus Stop, along Ojo-Igbede Road, Ajangbadi, Lagos.
Nkem told the court that the defendant stole a plasma television set valued at N50,000, two monitors valued at N33,000 and three small generating sets valued at N33,000.
According to the prosecutor, the items belonged to Mr Dare Solomon, who caught the defendant and handed him over to the police.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015 which stipulates three years jail term for offenders.
