Mararaba – A Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Nasarawa State, on Wednesday, remanded a 28-year-old man, Joel Ikenna in prison custody for alleged theft of items worth N71,500.
The judge, Yusuf Yaqub, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending further order of the court.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Agabi Auta, told the court that one Suleiman Adepoju of Tipper Garage, Aso, Mararaba, reported the matter at the Aso Police Station, Mararaba, Nasarawa State on Oct. 12.
Auta said the complainant alleged that the defendant broke into his house and stole a cash sum of N62,000, plates, valued N8,000 and groundnut oil, valued N1,500, which amounted to N71,500.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 353 and 288 of the Penal Code.
He, however, prayed the court for adjournment to enable him prepare for the case.
Ikenna had pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge brought against him while the judge adjourned the case until Nov. 25 for trial.
