Jos – Mr Gunshin Yarlings, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Plateau chapter, said on Tuesday that revamping sporting activities in public schools will enhance students’ performance in academics.
Yarlings told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos that students’ involvement in sports would make them more responsible in life.
According to him, engaging in sporting activities will instil in the students the zeal to excel in all endeavours including competitions, adding that achieving excellence required commitment, patience and discipline.
He said that surveys had shown that students who featured in sporting activities performed better in their academics.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
The official further said that such category of students were more motivated, had better attendance records and fewer discipline problems.
Yarlings said that sports should not be seen as an area for dropouts but for people who wanted to build self-esteem and have impeccable performance in their academics, career and responsibilities.
He urged both public and private school authorities in the country to ensure revamp sporting activities, for the development of the youth. (NAN)
