ABUJA – An Upper Area Court in Kado, Abuja, on Monday ordered that a 30-year-old mechanic, Zaharadeen Mohammed, be remanded in prison to enable the police to conclude investigation.
Mohamed, of Hayin Nasarawa, Niger State, is charged with a three-count charge of alleged joint act, criminal trespass and theft.
The Presiding Judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, gave the order after the police Prosecutor, Mr Salisu Mohammed, prayed the court to remand the accused.
The prosecutor said the remand would enable the police to carry out further investigation.
Sadiq ordered that the accused be remanded until June 9.
Earlier, the prosecutor had told the court that Mr Musa Abdul, of 69 Road, Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja, lodged a report against the accused at the Gwarimpa police station on April 18.
Mohammed said the accused, and two others who were now at large, trespassed into the complainant’s house and stole his Toyota Camry car valued at N3.3 million.
He said during police investigation, the accused confessed to have committed the crime and the said car was recovered from him.
The prosecutor added that the offence contravened the provision of sections 79, 327 and 287 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, the accused is liable to seven years imprisonment or an option of fine or both.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence. (NAN)
