Court remands office assistant over alleged N573,000 theft

Lagos  – An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday remanded at the Kirikiri Prisons, Apapa, an office assistant, Adamu Isaku, who allegedly stole N573, 000.

The Magistrate, Mr Aka Bashorun, ordered that Isaku, 26, be remanded after he admitted stealing the sum belonging to his employer.

Bashorun adjourned the case till Sept. 14 for sentencing.

Isaku, whose residential address was not disclosed, was arraigned on a one-count charge of stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, the accused committed the offence on April 26, at Ogunfayo area of Lekki, Lagos.

He said that the accused stole N573, 000 belonging to one Mr Festus Jatto, his employer.

“The complainant gave the accused the money to deposit in a bank, but he (accused), disappeared with it,” he said.

Olatunde said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 285 provides that if convicted of stealing, the accused is liable to three years imprisonment. (NAN)
