Ilorin – An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a tiler, Sulieman Babatunde, for allegedly being a member of a secret cult.
The Magistrate, Ibijoke Olawoyin, ordered that the defendant be remanded at Oke-kura Prison, Ilorin.
She adjourned the case until June 26 for further mention.
Babatunde is standing trial on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, attempt to cause hurt and being a member of a secret cult.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Al-Hassan Jubril, told the court that the defendant, with 11 others now at large, stormed the Ilorin Central Mosque with intention of inflicting injuries with axe on innocent people.
The prosecutor said the defendant was arrested on May 29 at Oja-Oba area of Ilorin.
He said the alleged offences contravened Sections 97 and 95 of Penal Code and Sections 2 and 14 of the Secret Cult and Secret Society Law, 2016.
Jubril prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody to allow time for the arrest of others at large.
