Court Remands Timber Operator Over Alleged N155,000 Fraud

Ile-Ife (Osun) – An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, remanded a 30-year-old man, Olalekan Boyenle, for allegedly fraudulently obtaining 200 pieces of planks worth N155,000.

The Prosecutor, Insp Irewole Jimoh, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 15, around 11:40 a.m. at Ayetoro area of Ipetumodu.

Jimoh stated that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N155, 000 from one Adeosun Jamiyu, under the pretext of supplying him with 200 pieces of 2×6 planks, but converted it to his own use.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 383 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, who was not legally represented, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of fraud.

The Magistrate, A.O. Famuyide, refused the bail application of the defendant.

He, however, asked him to come with a formal application for the consideration of his bail.

Famuyide ordered for that the defendant be remanded in Ile-Ife Correctional Centre and, thereafter, adjourned the case till Jan. 2, 2023 for mention. (NAN)
