Abuja, – A Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja on Thursday, remanded a 20-year-old trader, Umar Abubakar in a correctional centre for allegedly receiving eight units of stolen air conditioners and two big pots all valued at N1.3 million.
Abubakar who resides at A.Y.A, Asokoro, Abuja is facing charge of receiving stolen property.
The judge, Mr Umar Mayana, deferred bail for the defendant and adjourned untill Feb. 16, 2023 for ruling on application.
Mayana ordered that the defendant be remanded in Keffi Correctional Centre, pending conclusion of investigation.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that the matter was reported at Karu Police Station by one Tina Chekwas of No. 21 Justice Showemimo street, Asokoro, Abuja.
Osho told the court that on Dec. 16, the complainant reported that her security guard, Yakubu Ayuba stole eight units of air conditioners and two big pots valued at N1.3 million.
“During police investigation it was discovered that the stolen items were sold to the defendant, knowing fully well that the items were stolen and he dishonestly received them,” he told the court.
The prosecutor said in the course of further investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime and three units of the air conditioners were recovered from him.
According to him, the offence contravened the provision of Section 317 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. (NAN)
