Sokoto        –        A Sokoto Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded two traders, Attahiru Sirajo and Yusuf Umar, in prison over the alleged theft of a motorcycle valued at N160,000.

Sirajo, 24 and Umar, 25, who reside at Dalhatu area of Sokoto, had pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and theft instituted against them.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Chief Magistrate Abubakar Adamu ordered the remand of the duo to enable the police to carry out further investigation into the matter.

The Prosecutor, Abdullahi Mohammed, had told the court that the matter was reported by the complainant, Aliyu Jabo, on Sept. 9 at the Sokoto North Division of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant resides at the same address with the accused persons.

“The accused persons allegedly conspired and stole a Kasea motorcycle parked outside the mosque while the complainant was inside worshipping,” he said.

He said that all efforts made at tracing the motorcycle proved abortive.

The offences, he added, contravened Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The case was adjourned till Sept. 25 for further hearing.
