A High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has nullified the ward, local government, and state congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which resulted in the emergence of Tony Okocha as chairman.
Delivering the ruling, Justice Godswill Ogbomanu stated that the APC violated an earlier court order prohibiting the conduct of the congresses. The court also imposed a ₦10 million fine on the party, emphasizing the importance of upholding judicial authority.
The legal representative for the claimants welcomed the verdict, calling it a proper application of the law. “This judgment reaffirms the rule of law and the necessity of compliance with court orders,” the counsel stated.
In contrast, the APC’s defense team indicated plans to consult the party’s National Working Committee before determining their next course of action.
This decision marks a significant setback for the APC in Rivers State, raising questions about the validity of its leadership structure and future political activities.
