Kano – A Kano Magistrates’ court on Monday sentenced a 21-year-old labourer, Bashir Abdullahi, to one month in prison for stealing six chickens.
The Magistrate, Fatima Muhammad, sentenced Abdullahi after he pleaded guilty to the offence of theft, contrary to Section 288 of the Penal Code.
Muhammad, however, gave the convict an option of N3,000 fine, adding, however, that the convict had the right to make an appeal within 30 days.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Yakubu Galadima, had told the court that one Ghali Abdulkarim of Wurro Bugga village in Kano reported the case at the Badawa Police Division on July 14.
He said that Abdullahi entered Abdulkarim’s house and stole six chickens, valued at N8,400.
When the matter was read out to the accused, he pleaded guilty. (NAN)
