The convicts, Sani Mustapha, 18, of Anguwa Kastinawa Mararaba and Yusuf Abubakar, 18, of Shopping Center Mararaba, faced three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, theft and mischief.
The Magistrate, Mr Iliya Aku, sentenced them after they pleaded guilty to the charges of criminal conspiracy and theft.
Aku said that each charge attracted a jail term of three months for each of the convicts and explained that they had a combined jail term of 12 months, each to serve six months.
He, however, gave each of the convicts an option of N5, 000 as fine.
He said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to other people with evil intentions.
The prosecutor, Mr Steven Kwaza, had told the court that the convicts broke the glass of a Honda car belonging to one Raymond of Immani Estate, Mararaba, and removed the car’s battery and stereo.
He said that the offence was committed on April 30, adding that the items were recovered from the convicts during investigation.
Kwaza also told the court that the convicts confessed to committing the offence.
He said that the offences contravened sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The convicts pleaded guilty to two charges and “not guilty” to the charge of mischief.
Consequently, the magistrate adjourned the case on the charge of mischief till May 13 for hearing. (NAN)
