Jos – An upper Area Court 1 sitting in Kaswan Nama in Plateau on Wednesday sentenced two men, Wilson Igbo and Patrick Eta to 30 months imprisonment for conspiracy and cheating.
The Judge, Lawal Suleiman, sentenced Igbo, 42 and Eta, 49 after they pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
Suleiman however, gave the convicts an option to pay a fine of N25, 000 each.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported in March 4, at the Laranto Police station by one Blessing Emmanuel of ECWA staff Jos, who is the complainant.
Gokwat said that the convicts conspired and deceived the woman and collected the sum of N100, 000 from her to bring goods from abroad for her.
“The convicts asked for another N26,000 from the complainant and asked her to bring another N5,000.
“It was when they came to collect the money that they were apprehended,” Gokwat said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 59 and 307 of the penal code.
