Kano – Business men in Kano have decried low patronage as people limit their activities in fear of the spread of Coronavirus.
A Printer, Mr James Ameh who spoke with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Tuesday in Kano said that measures taken against the COVID-19 pandemic affected businesses in many ways.
According to him: “lately we have discovered withdrawal both in persons and cash, the reason is not far fetched.
“Already there is apprehension in the mind of some people that the little money they have should be kept in case of any eventuality, besides that, the advocacy for self isolation and social distances is another factor.
“Now that businesses are experiencing downturn and people are saying there is no money like before, we need to move closer to God,’’ he said.
Adamu Yahaya, a trader of baby wears at Yankura Market, said that some of his diapers and under wears were being produced in America, China, Egypt, India and Indonesia, lamenting that supply had reduced due border closure in countries affected by the pandemic.
“Molfix diapers which are produced in China have reduced in supply,’’ he said, adding that the trend affected prices of the items.
He said a dozen of brassier was sold at N6, 000 asa against its previous price of N5, 500 before the outbreak of the disease.
Saminu Abdullahi, a drug seller at Ibo Road, Sabon Gari, said that the supply of drugs had dropped pushing prices up due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Abdullahi prayed for the total control of the pandemic advised people to ensure proper personal hygiene.
He also urged his fellow business men to adhere strictly to medical advice and precautionary measures by ensuring hand washing and sensitisers provided for their customers to contain spread of the disease.
