ABUJA (SundiataPost) – Nigeria on Wednesday crossed the 11,000 mark in the record of COVID-19 cases. The country now has 11,166 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) released the new figure in its latest update on Wednesday night.
In addition it reported 348 new cases out of which Lagos, the country’s epicentre has 163 cases.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which had not witnessed an upsurge of new infections lately, reported 76 new cases.
Particularly worrisome is Ebonyi State in the South-East, which has 23 new cases. The South-East has not witnessed upsurge in infections but the recent migration of youths of the north to the South-East despite inter-state lockdown has raised concerns about possible infection of COVID-19.
It is not, however, clear if the new cases in Ebonyi have anything to do with the migration of northern youths referred to as Almajiris to the state.
Deaths resulting from the pandemic as at Wednesday stand at 315, one more addition to the figure of 314 reported as at Tuesday.
