COVID-19: FCTA denies closure of Idu Isolation Centre

The Administration () Saturday said it has not shut down the Idu COVID-19 and Isolation centre.

Acting Secretary the and Services Secretariat, Dr. Kawu disclosed this in a statement, he personally issued Saturday, while providing clarification the contained in the said publication.


He said while it is true the has closed down some following a reduction in the number hospitalised patients recently, Idu centre is still functional and receiving patients.

His words: “We only closed down two , the Asokoro and Karu general hospitals which were earlier converted but have now been returned their original use.


“But the Idu Isolation centre which is a 500-bed facility is still opened and managing ”.

He said the FCT Administration has no intention close down the Idu centre for now until all parameters have been put in place, adding COVID-19 is still prevalent and we cannot take chances.


Kawu who noted there has been a significant drop in the number people coming down with the disease in the FCT, however, appealed to residents to continue with the observation the non-pharmacological preventive measures washing of hands with soap and water or hand sanitizers, wearing of face mask, physical/social distancing and avoiding large gatherings.
