Kuje (FCT) – The Gomo of Kuje, Alhaji Jibrin Tanko, on Monday advised residents in the Federal Capital Territory to obey the Federal Government’s 14-day restriction to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.
The traditional ruler gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kuje, while reacting to the two-week restriction ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari.
NAN reports that the president had on Sunday directed the cessation of all movements in Lagos, Ogun and the FCT for an initial period of 14 days, effective from March 30, to check the spread of the disease.
According to him, it is necessary for residents to adhere strictly to the restriction directive and take precautionary measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
“The residents should remain united and resolute at this period, as the only way to tackle and win the war against the virus together.
“They should imbibe best hygiene practices as directed by medical professionals to avoid contracting the virus.
“We should endeavour to wash our hands regularly, use hand sanitisers and maintain social distances.
“We should adhere strictly to safety tips and take proactive measures to help tackle the spread of the disease in the country,” the royal father said.
He urged residents in FCT to use the 14 days of lockdown to report suspected cases of coronavirus infections to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) promptly.
The Gomo said all hands must be on deck to contain and win the war against COVID-19 pandemic by maintaining social distances and personal hygiene.
He lauded the FCTA for the efforts made so far to sensitise the public as well as other measures, put in place to curtail the spread of the disease.
“We should try to stay indoors and obey the government’s social restriction order to contain further spread and win the war against the virus,” he said.
The traditional ruler, however, called on district heads and community leaders in his domain to sensitise their subjects to comply with the precautionary measures against COVID-19 pandemic.
