ARUSHA – Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, said on Tuesday in Arusha, Tanzania, that the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) would work toward the implementation of the continent’s transformation agenda.
Ikuforiji spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the 45th CPA Africa Conference, tagged “Utilising Commonwealth Parliaments to Combat the Challenges to Socio-Economic Development in Africa”.
He said members of the association had agreed to table the transformation agenda for discussion at the conference to ensure its implementation among member-states in Africa.
“We have agreed to table the agenda at the conference to facilitate its implementation in Africa,’’ he said.[eap_ad_2]
Also Mrs Anne Makinda, the CPA President, told journalists that the various challenges militating against the socio-economic development of Africa would be addressed at the conference.
She said the conference had attracted no fewer than 500 delegates from 18 CPA member-countries in Africa.
“This is our annual meeting during which we will reflect on how Africa has fared in the last one year,’’ she said.
Makinda said the conference which began on July 17 would be declared open by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Mr Jakaya Kikwete, on July 24. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
