Akpabuyo (Cross River) – The Cross River Government says it has begun the rehabilitation of Calabar-Akpabuyo-Bakassi road to facilitate the movement of people in the area.
The Dep. Governor of the state, Prof. Ivara Esu, said this on Monday while inspecting the level of work on the road.
Esu said that the new administration would not watch federal roads in the state deteriorate to the level of cutting off some parts of the state.
He expressed optimism that free and normal movement of people from Calabar to its eastern flank would soon return for greater economic activities.
Esu urged the contractors handling the rehabilitation to expedite the process.
“I want to assure you that materials and machinery meant for the job are arriving from various parts of the state and in days ahead the intensity of the rehabilitation will increase.

“This will ensure that palliative measures are established on the road to enthrone normalcy and forestall the total breakdown of movement around the area, ‘’ he said.
The deputy governor expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance by the contractors in complimenting government road rehabilitation efforts in the state.
He promised that the government would do everything within its power to rehabilitate all the federal roads in the state and appealed to commuters to exercise restraint.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that all the roads leading to Calabar, which are federal-owned, are all in deplorable condition. (NAN)
