KAMPALA – A senior wildlife official on Thursday said a crocodile killed and ate a pregnant woman on the shores of a lake in north-eastern Uganda, , making her the 30th victim of such reptile attacks .
Dementilia Nabwire, 25, with two months pregnant, was collecting firewood on the shores of Lake Kyoga with several other women on Wednesday, when a crocodile jumped out of the water and pulled her into the lake.
According to Uganda Wildlife Authority official, Peter Ogwang , crocodile attacks on humans are on the increase because fish stocks in lakes have been decreasing.
“The woman, we have learnt, was killed by the crocodile.
“These animals are lacking to eat and are attacking people,’’ Ogwang said. (dpa/NAN)
