Ile-Ife (Osun) – Mr John Ogundele, the Curator, National Commission for Museum and Monument, Ile-Ife, has called for the promotion of indigenous languages in order to ensure sustenance of the nation’s culture.
Ogundele spoke on Monday in Ile-Ife at a seminar organised by the Commission to mark the 2016 International Indigenous Language Day.
He said that culture cannot stand without language, as language is used to describe culture.
According to Ogundele, if one loses language, he has lost the culture.
The curator condemned parents that discouraged their wards from speaking their mother tongue.

According to him, there are some antiquities kept in the national museum that has no English equivalent.
The guest lecturer, Alhaji Adeoye Bakare, charged parents to always speak indigenous languages to their children.
Bakare who is the Manager of Orisun FM, Ile-Ife, said that charity begins at home, urged the government to make indigenous languages compulsory in secondary schools.
The guest lecturer also appealed to the government to allow teachers to be using indigenous languages to teach in schools. (NAN)
