By NAN The Nigeria Customs Service, Sokoto Area Command, on Saturday in Sokoto State says it has intercepted two truckloads of unregistered drugs worth several millions of naira.
The Sokoto Area Comptroller, Mr Bamidele Akande, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the drugs were smuggled into Nigeria from Niger Republic through Shinkafi Local Niger Government Area of Zamfara.
Bamidele that the seized drugs included 90 cartoons of tramol capsules, cough syrups, among others.
He said that no fewer than 38 cartoons of such drugs were also intercepted in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Akande said that the seized drugs had no NAFDAC registration numbers.
“One person has been arrested in connection with the smuggling of the drugs and prosecution will follow as soon as investigations are concluded,’’ he said.
He said that the command had not recorded any case of smuggling of arms because of its adherence to 100 per cent of inspection of all items coming into the country through there.
“My area of jurisdictions is a no-go-area for any smugglers, because we are ready for them,’’ Akande said.
He said that the command had embarked on a community-based enlightenment campaigns to sensitise the people in border areas on their roles toward curbing smuggling.
