Badagry (Lagos State) – The Seme Command of Nigeria Custom Service on Monday said it generated N929.3 million revenue in October.
The spokesman for the command, Mr Selechang Taupyen, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Seme that the revenue was 46 million higher than the N883 million generated in September.
“In the month of October, we generated more than the previous month because trading activities were a bit higher.
“The command has consistently performed above average despite many hiccups that make the revenue target for the current year seemingly unattainable and we intend to maintain that,’’ he said.
Taupyen said the command made 20 seizures in the month of September with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N2 million.
He attributed the reduction in numbers of seizures to the aggressive anti-smuggling operations embarked on by officers in the spirit of renewed war against smuggling.
“This has led to drastic reduction in smuggling activities in the command and various suspects were also arrested at different anti-smuggling operations.
“The seized items include bags of rice, frozen poultry products, vegetable oil and vehicles, amongst others,’’ he said.

The spokesman urged Nigerians to desist from smuggling and embrace legitimate business.
“Smuggling is dangerous to the economy, so Nigerians should embrace legitimate trade because it helps to improve the economy which in turn benefits everyone,’’ he said. (NAN)
