Dangote Cement Zambia, a subsidiary of Dangote Cement Plc, has received three prestigious awards at the 6th National Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) & Sustainability Awards held in Lusaka, Zambia.
At the event, organized by CSR Network Zambia, the company was recognized for its impactful initiatives, winning:
- The Food Security Initiative Award in the Excellence in Agriculture category
- The Best Waste Recycling Initiative Award in the Environmental Sustainability category
- The Mental Healthcare Award in the Excellence in the Workplace category
The award ceremony, themed “Driving Sustainable Impact through Innovation,” took place at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka. More than 60 major corporate organizations participated, celebrating outstanding CSR and sustainability contributions across Zambia.
CSR Network Zambia’s Executive Director, Lee Muzala, praised Dangote Cement Zambia for its commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment. “Dangote Cement Zambia has demonstrated exceptional dedication to driving positive change in agriculture, environmental sustainability, and workplace well-being. These awards are a testament to their efforts in creating a lasting impact in Zambia,” he said.
Receiving the awards, Victor Mpundu, Head of Environment and Social Performance (Sustainability Lead) at Dangote Cement Zambia, expressed gratitude for the recognition. “We are deeply honored to receive these prestigious awards. They reflect our unwavering commitment to sustainability and our efforts to make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve. At Dangote Cement, sustainable development is not just a responsibility but a core value that drives our operations,” he stated.
These awards highlight Dangote Cement Zambia’s leadership in corporate social responsibility, emphasizing its contributions to food security through agricultural support, environmental protection via innovative waste recycling, and employee well-being through mental health initiatives.
Dangote Cement Zambia, based in Ndola, operates a fully integrated 1.5 million metric tonnes per annum (Mta) cement plant and is part of the larger Dangote Cement Group. The company has a strong presence across Africa, including operations in Cameroon, Congo, Ghana, Ethiopia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, and Tanzania.
Dangote Cement is Africa’s leading cement producer, with a total capacity of 52 Mta across the continent. In Nigeria, its Obajana plant in Kogi State, with a production capacity of 16.25 Mta, is the largest in Africa. The company’s investment in cement production has not only eliminated Nigeria’s dependence on imported cement but has also positioned the country as an exporter of cement and clinker to neighboring nations.
