ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The Department of the State Security Service (DSS) has refused to allow former National Security Adviser(NSA),Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) to go home on bail, even after perfecting the third bail granted by an Abuja high court.
The DSS in a dramatic fashion on Tuesday night, took custody of Dasuki shortly after perfecting the third bail granted him by Justice Peter Affem after two other courts had done same.
Reacting to the recent development on Wednesday in Abuja, the counsel to Dasuki, Mr Ahmed Raji (SAN) who also confirmed that the former NSA had met all the bail conditions given by Justice Affem and regretted that the court order was not obeyed by the operatives of the State Security Service (DSS).
Raji, who perfected the bail condition of his client, warned that the actions of the security agents was an affront to the rule of law under democracy.
The lawyer, who spoke to our correspondent, said that the Nigerian secret police did not give any reason for the latest arrest, which he noted, is in clear violation of the court order.
“No reason given so far. And their action violates the order of the court,” he said. [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He, however, appealed to the concerned authorities in the relevant security agencies and the Federal Government to respect court order and allow Dasuki to enjoy the bail granted him by a law court of the country.
Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court also in Abuja had on November 3, granted the ex NSA bail over charges of unlawful possession of firearms. The bail was however scuttled the following day by the DSS. operatives who instead of obeying court order laid siege in Asokoro home of the former NSA and placed him under house arrest.
The claim of the security agents then was that Dasuki was being investigated on another matter. He was later arraigned before justice Yusuf Baba of the Abuja High court on breach of trust and was granted bail but which was also refused to be obeyed by the security operatives.
Dasuki was also moved to another high court presided over by Justice Peter Affem who also admitted him on bail on the ground that the offence was a bailable one.
He had since met the bail conditions but was not released from the custody of SSS after his detention in at DSS and EFCC cells and Kuje Prison in Abuja.
