OTUKPO – The immediate past Senate President, David Mark, has been declared as the winner of the Saturday’s Benue South Senatorial District Re-run election.
According to results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mark of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled a total of 84,192 votes to defeat his closest rival, Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who got 71, 621 votes. He won in five local government areas while Onjeh won in four.
Sundiata Post reports that supporters of the former senate president went into wild jubilation moments after the declaration of the results by INEC.
Mark is a veteran in the Senate, having been in the Senate since 1999. Before the rerun election which was held following a Supreme Court decision which quashed his victory in the April 2015 election, there had been pressure on him to step down.
