Deaf, dumb jailed 3 years for cocaine trafficking

A Federal High in Lagos Monday sentenced a 32-year-old deaf and dumb, Aliu Sanni, to three years imprisonment for trafficking in cocaine.

Sanni, who was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, 19, had pleaded guilty to dealing 17.8kg of banned drug.

Justice Mohammed Idris had ordered the remand of the man at the Ikoyi Prisons, and  adjourned the case for review of the facts and sentencing.

In his , Idris held that the sentence should take effect March 26, when was arrest.

“The was completely aware of his commercial activities in the restricted drug; so,n he must be punished.

“The sentence of the shall serve as a warning signal to drug traffickers,” he said.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mr Kalu Orji, told the that the convict  was arrested at the Young Shall Grow Motor Park at Iddo, Lagos.

According to Orji, the cocaine was recovered the accused, who intended to export it.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 11 (c) of the Act, Cap N30, Laws of the , 2004. (NAN)
