Warri (Delta) – Residents of Eseimogbene Community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta have appealed to Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa to repair the dilapidated Beinmo Primary School in the community.
A community leader, Mr Cleric Alaowei, made the plea on behalf of the residents on Tuesday in Warri.
Alaowei said the community that was created in 1976 erected the only primary school through community effort long time ago, adding that the building was now in a complete bad shape.
Alaowei, a legal practitioner, alleged that since the creation of Eseimogbene community, the the area has not attracted government attention in terms of social amenities in spite of the oil exploration activities taken place there.
“Since the creation of Eseimogbene Community in 1976, the place has not received any social amenity from the government. The only primary school here was built by the residents.
“In 2002, Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) in recognition of her host Community status, built a four room quarters for the teachers.
“Right now, Beinmo Primary School is in shambles, the classrooms and the teachers’ quarters are bad.
“The residents drink from polluted water, while the community is seasonally submerged by flood.
“People paddle their sick relatives, including women in labour from the community to far away Bomadi Town in Bomadi Local Government Area, to seek medical attention due to lack of health care service,” he said.
Alaowei said in spite of its low population, members of the community exercised their franchise during elections and wondered why it could be neglected by the government in terms of dividends.
