Shimite Winifred Bello, who served as the Trade and Export aide to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has passed away.
Her death, reported on Monday, is suspected to be linked to a case of domestic violence.
Although full details surrounding the incident are still unclear, her death was confirmed by fellow government aide and human rights advocate, Harrison Gwamnishu. He publicly expressed his grief in a Facebook post shared on Monday, April 21.
Reacting to the tragic news, another human rights activist, Victor Ojie, emphasized the importance of personal safety in relationships. In a separate Facebook post, he cautioned, “Marriage is not by force. It is better to walk away from a marriage than to lose your life.”
Meanwhile, social media user Oge Okonkwo claimed that Bello’s husband had been arrested by the police in connection with her death.
Tameta Sunday, who worked as an aide to Bello, alleged in an emotional post that she was killed by her husband. He described the suspect as a man who presented himself as a pastor but, in his words, ended all the promising plans they had made together.
Bello’s passing has sparked a wave of sorrow and outrage online, as many Nigerians call for justice and greater awareness about the dangers of domestic violence.
