Asaba – The Delta Government on Monday in Asaba empowered no fewer than 540 graduands under the State Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) with starter packs and cash.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the graduands who recently concluded a six-month entrepreneurship training where of three groups: fashion designers and tailoring; computer hardware repairs, and electrical installations and repairs.
NAN further reports that Monday’s empowerment was the third since the administration came on board, while no fewer than 2,000 youths have been trained and empowered with equipment and cash to start their own businesses.
Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa who addressed the beneficiaries charged them to ensure that they put the starter packs to good use and to create wealth for themselves.
“My interest is to see you succeed and my joy will be complete if after my four years in office, I see you making success in your businesses.
“I pray to God that you will succeed, today you have been trained and you have been given equipment and some allowances to pay for shops and take care of the initial expenses.
“What matter most now is the zeal and your commitment to succeed and the success story of this programme is when each beneficiary tells his or her success story,” Okowa said.
Mr Austin Ogbechie, a beneficiary, thanked the governor for the training, adding that the training exposed him to the key component of what computer appreciation was all about.
Also, Mr Authentic Ojuwa, responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the governor for the programme and assured him that they would do their best not to fail the government.(NAN)
