Asaba – Delta state government will constitute task force to monitor the movement of petrol tankers meant for the state, the Commissioner for Information, Mr Patrick Ukah, has said.
Ukah made the statement on Tuesday in Asaba while briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting of the State Executive Council.
He said that the government was concerned with the plight of the people and had resolved to monitor movement of all petrol tankers approved for the state.
He said though, issues of petrol was on the exclusive list reserved for the Federal Government, the state government would intervene in order to provide succour for its people.
He said that government intended to monitor filling stations to check those who hoard fuel.
He promised that government would work within its limits to ensure the availability of the product across the state.
“The task force will ensure that petrol billed for the state is not diverted to other states,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that petrol is currently being sold for between N180 and N200 per litre in Asaba and its environs. (NAN)
