ASABA – The Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) would conduct fresh elections in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of the state, its commission, Mr Moses Ogbe, said on Sunday in Asaba.
The chairman explained that the decision of the commission to conduct fresh polls in the area was based on the report of the Returning Officer, Prof. Temi Akporhonor, on the outcome of Saturday’s council election in the area.
According to him, available information reaching the commission, coupled with information from Akporhonor confirmed that elections did not hold in Ndokwa East Local Government Area on Saturday.
“Consequently, the commission will conduct a fresh election in Ndokwa East at a later date,” he said.
Ogbe had earlier announced that there would be run-off election in eight wards in Ethiope East Local Government Area as the election in the area had been declared inconclusive.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that out of the 25 local government areas in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the chairmanship elections in 22 councils whose results have been released.
While fresh election would be conducted in Ndokwa East, and run-off in eight wards in Ethiope East, the result of the polls in Isoko South was still awaited, according to the chairman.
He also said that apart from 96 councillorship candidates who were returned unopposed in some wards across all the councils in the state, results of other councillorship seats were being collated. (NAN)
