Abuja – A former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Idi Hong, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for curtailing insecurity and corruption in his one year in office.
Hong made the commendation while commenting on the performance of Buhari in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday.
The former minister said that under the leadership of President Buhari, Boko Haram insurgents had been degraded in the North-East, which made it impossible for the extremists to move freely in the sub-region.
He also said that the relocation of the Military Command Centre to Borno had encouraged the armed forces to confront the sect members with renewed vigour to end insurgency in the area.
“ For those of us who are from Adamawa, Borno and Yobe, we know that President Buhari has done well in counter-insurgency operation in the North-East, “ Hong said.
He further said that the Buhari administration had introduced policies that had improved transparency and accountability in governance thereby reducing the high level of corruption in the country.
He said that anti-graft agencies were given freedom to pursue corrupt officials with a view to recover looted funds.
The former minister said that in the area of foreign affairs, President Buhari had restored the lost glory of Nigeria in the comity of nation’s and strengthened bilateral relations with many countries.
He advised Nigerians to continue to pray for the President to succeed, pointing out that “ Buhari assumed office when the economy had deteriorated“. (NAN)
