Gusau  –   The Deputy Governor of Zamfara, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala on Monday urged youths in the state to take advantage of various empowerment programmes of government to be self-reliant.

The deputy governor gave the advice on Monday in Gusau at a lecture organised by the Zamfara Central Youths Forum.

Wakkala, who was represented by Alhaji Sanusi Wanzamai, the Permanent Commissioner, State Independent Electoral Commission, said the Federal Government had planned various employment opportunities for youths.

“You know, youths as leaders of tomorrow have vital role to play to support the Federal Government policy to revive the nation’s economy.

“Therefore, you have to participate in these programmes to benefit from them and contribute your own quota in the nation’s building,’’ he said.

In his remark, the Chairmen Tsafe Local Government Council, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, urged the youths to acquire education in order to have a brighter future.

Aliyu, who stressed the importance of education, said that youth as leaders of tomorrow have a great role to play in the development of the country.

“It is very worrisome the way youths do not take issues of education seriously especially tertiary education, despite its importance.

“As we all know, education is the bedrock of development, therefore as leaders, it has become one of our top responsibilities to educate our people.

“The most disheartening thing is that most of our youths in Zamfara are not ready to go to school and even when they are sponsored they abandon it and prefer to flock around politicians,” he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of the youth forum, Malam Rufa’i Bala-UB, said the group was established to draw the attention of youths in the area to various opportunities created by government.

“It is very unfortunate the way our youths have been involved in political thuggery and other social vises which have negative impact on their lives.

“That is why we organise this lecture under this forum to invite both policy makers and resource persons to senstise our youths.’’

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that various lectures on youths empowered and development were presented at the occasion.
