The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, on Wednesday appealed to doctors, nurses and other caregivers to be more tolerant and loving while attending to patients.
Orelope-Adefulire made the appeal during a tour of the Ajeromi General Hospital, Ajegunle, Lagos. She said that such attitudes would change the negative perception of the public about health workers, especially those in public hospitals.
“What is required of you is to show more love; do not react unnecessarily to the patients; also mind your utterances.
“In showing love, you develop your patient’s confidence, and contribute to improved service delivery to our people,” she said.
“We need to encourage our patients, restore hope to their hopelessness, even when such patients are dying.
“Let us wear a new look and change our attitudes to patients and work,” the deputy governor urged.
Orelope-Adefulire said that allocating more funds to the health sector would be useless, if professionals would not work.
