Family sources on Saturday spoke on the late Anambra South Federal Lawmaker, Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah’s cause of death.
The sources told People’s Gazette that Ubah reportedly slumped after suffering a cardiac arrest in his hotel room.
Other reports say he died while celebrating the graduation of his child from a United Kingdom institution.
SundiataPost reported that the politician, 52, passed away at the United Kingdom on Friday night.
Prior to his UK trip that he had been heavily consulting ahead of his Governorship bid in Anambra State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Until his death, Ubah was the CEO of downstream oil marketer Capital Oil.
In 2014, Mr Ubah contested for Governorship seat in Anambra under the Labour Party but lost.
He then moved to the Young Progressive Party (YPP), winning a Senate seat in both 2019 and 2023.
Later in 2023, Mr Ubah defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He explained then that his joining the APC was to ensure the South-East aligns with the government at the centre.
He served as a member of the Nigerian Senate until his death.
In September 2022, Ubah, on his way to Nnewi, was ambushed by gunmen in Enugwu-Ukwu in Anambra State – his convoy was shot at; at least five persons, including two policemen, were killed.
Ubah survived the attack, reportedly shielded by the bulletproof vehicle he was riding on.
He is survived by his wife, Uchenna Ubah and their five children.
