The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) met today to discuss key issues affecting the country.

Health Sector Renewal: The Forum received a presentation from the Minister of Health and Social Welfare on the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Program (NHSRIP). The updates covered the Sector-Wide Approach, the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF), Primary Health Care (PHC) Revitalization, and the National Supply Chain Management. The governors reaffirmed their commitment to improving health outcomes for all Nigerians.

World Bank Collaboration: The Forum welcomed the new Country Director of the World Bank, Mr. Ndiame Diop, and his team. They discussed the Bank’s various programmes being implemented in the states, including HOPE (Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equality), Food and Nutrition Security, and SPIN (Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria Project). The governors assured the Country Director of their continued support and willingness to help implement these programmes nationwide.

Security Briefing: The NGF received a briefing from the National Security Adviser’s (NSA) office on the current security situation. The NSA noted the growing momentum for a planned protest demanding government attention and pledged support to the governors in enhancing security at the subnational level. The governors expressed their gratitude and reaffirmed their commitment to improving the security of lives and property.

Local Government Autonomy: The Forum was briefed by the body of Attorneys General of the 36 states on the Supreme Court ruling regarding the financial autonomy of local governments.

Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Engagement: The governors received a briefing from the NBA on its new leadership and other initiatives. The NBA expressed its commitment to working with the states to defend democracy and the rule of law. The governors emphasized the importance of the NBA’s role in effective governance and assured continued collaboration and support.
