Benin Jan – The Edo Fire Service on Monday raised alarm over the high incidence of fire disaster in the state since the dry season commenced
The state’s Director of Fire Service, Mr Frankly Agbolahor, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin, that there was hardly a day without a reported case.
According to him, since the beginning of the dry season, no day passes without the department receiving a distress call.
Agbolahor, who could not give statistics of the fire outbreaks during the period, however, said that the figure was higher when compared to the previous years.
He said the department recorded numerous fire outbreaks during Christmas and New Year holidays, adding that the department was still compiling the number recorded.
The fire chief warned residents to be safety conscious and alert particularly during the dry season.
“There is need for proper housekeeping at all times, especially this Harmattan period
“The speed of wind is on a high side unlike previous seasons; the numerous fire outbreaks is alarming
“I have cautioned and sensitised the residents; yet most of us keep making the same mistakes,” Agbolahor said.

The fire chief said that it was better to prevent a fire than to call for help after the deed.
He also warned the public against being careless with naked flames and to ensure that electrical appliances are switched off when not in use. (NAN)
