Dismissed policeman charged with impersonation, stealing motorcycle

ABUJA – The Police on Wednesday, arraigned a dismissed policeman, Nasiru Alhassan, 37, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, charged with impersonating an officer and stealing a motorcycle.

The Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Christian Munonye, told the court that Malam Abacha Umar, of Angwan Albarka, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, reported the matter at Garki Police Station, Abuja on June 6.

He told the court that the accused introduced himself as a policeman attached to the Garki police station.

Munonye said the accused convinced Umar to take him to UBA, Area 8, Garki, on his motorcycle because he wanted to withdraw money from his account.

“On getting to the bank, the accused sent Umar to a nearby shop to buy him a polythene bag with which to carry the money after withdrawal. [eap_ad_2] “Umar left the accused with his motorcycle and when he got back, he did not find the accused and the motorcycle.”

He said that during police investigation, it was discovered that the accused was a dismissed policeman.

He said the accused was charged with impersonation and theft which contravened sections 134 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The defence counsel, Mr Edo Okanyi, applied for the bail for his client.

He said his client was a responsible family man and had reliable sureties to take him on bail if he was obliged.

The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Mimi Kastina–Alu, granted the accused bail in the sum of 100,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

She adjourned the case till Sept. 9 for hearing. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
