Akure – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, has impounded an NNPC branded tanker for diversion of 11,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
Mr Adeyinka Ayinla, the state Commandant of NSCDC, who briefed newsmen after the incident on Friday in Akure, ordered that the product be sold to the public at the official pump price of N86.
Ayinla said that the tanker marked FST 309 XR, was caught by the officers of the command while discharging the 11,000 litres of PMS at Satabest filling station, located along Ijoka road, Akure.
“As at the time the tanker was caught, it had already discharged about 11,000 litres of the product in the filling station.
“ It was discovered that the 22,000 litres of the product had been discharged in an undisclosed filling station earlier, which is still under investigation.”
The NSCDC boss noted that the way bill of the product did not specify the location where the product was meant, which showed that the product might have been diverted.
The commandant warned independent marketers engaged in sharp practices to desist from such evil.
He said that officers and men of the command were on high alert to fish them out and bring them to book.
He appealed to the people of the state to provide security agencies with timely information that would help to curb all forms of illegality in the state.
He also enjoined members of the public to inform the corps and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) about any petrol stations still selling above the official pump price of N86.
According to him, filling stations selling above official price were the ones making members of the public to cast aspersions on the Federal Government.
He gave assurance that the command was ready discharge its duties for the good of the people. (NAN)
