Port Harcourt – Andrew Tolofari, a Port Harcourt-based DJ and music artist, on Friday, said he would engage upcoming artists in competitions to foster career opportunities for local musicians.
Tolofari, popularly called DJ Ayi by his fans, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt that “Port Harcourt city has enormous music talents yet to be discovered.
“There is need for reputable entertainment promoters to explore Port Harcourt because it has tremendous music talents.”
The artist announced that he had concluded arrangements to popularise some local songs by organising competitions for Port Harcourt-based artists.
He said the best songs would be showcased on broad platforms to enable the singers
to attract higher endorsements and collaborations.
He added that “the major reason why Port Harcourt-based musicians are not attracting much popularity as their Lagos counterparts is the absence of advert platforms.
“Lagos-based artists have better opportunities from music promoters who showcase local music contents on Soundcity and other top music channels that attract large viewership.
“We lack such opportunities here in Port Harcourt.”
Ayi, who said he was set to add series of top songs to his Mixtape record label, added that he was still working on his original songs.
He, however, noted that he would launch series of mixed edition of songs by local artists in his Mixtape.
He said “I am dropping my latest on line Mixtape titled unforgettable this week Sunday.
“My Mixtape is a collection of songs refined for popular stage demand it.”
Dj Ayi said he had featured several artists on his Mixtape, saying “I featured Mr 2kay in the song I titled kele kele, I also featured Double Jay in Ghetto song surugede.”
