Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The President of Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) Prof. Mohammad Aminu has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to as a matter of urgency subsidized electricity tariff for public hospitals and educational institutions to prevent them from total collapse.
Aminu said with the current hike in the electricity tariff, hospitals and educational institutions will in the nearest future size to exist, hence leading to civil unrest by citizens.
MDCAN made the appeal while leading members of the National Executive Council (NEC), on a courtesy visit to President Tinubu in Abuja in continuation of their advocacy visits to critical stakeholders.
The consultation is primarily on the welfare of its members and the challenges bedeviling the health sector, our correspondent reports.
Speaking in a statement sent to this reporter, the secretary of MDCAN, Dr. Godwin Adgidzi, urged Tinubu to convene a healthcare and educational summit as well as conduct training and re-training for Medical doctors within Nigeria and abroad to keep them abreast with global best practices.
The statement also said that Aminu wants Tinubu to intervene in the harmonization of payment with CONMESS Salary structure for consultants, increase the retirement age for Hospital Consultants to 70 years and as a matter of fact review CONMESS salary structure and allowances among other demands.
Responding, President Tinubu said he has prioritized the health sector as one of his main focus, and will see to it that the challenges will be met with prompt action.
Represented by the Minister of Health and Coordinating Minister for Social Welfare, Prof Ali Pate, Tinubu said most of the issues bedeviling the sector will get speedy attention within a time frame.
He advised MDCAN to always walk closely with the Ministry of Health.
