Bauchi – Mr Yakubu Dogara, the Speaker, House of Representatives, on Monday donated office equipment and cash to Bauchi State Chapter of Correspondents Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Dogara, represented by Mr Illiya Habila, his Special Assistant on Media, presented the gifts in Bauchi on Monday.
He said that the gesture was part of his humanitarian assistance to groups and individuals in the country.
The speaker said that he had carried out some robust legislative activities prominent of which were the bills on legal reform and North-East Development Commission.
Other activities, he added, were drilling of boreholes, skills acquisition, award of scholarships, provision of solar systems, sponsoring pilgrims to both Israel and Mecca.
He also said that he had also provided relief materials to some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
In his own speech, Habila commended members of the chapel for being objective and fair in their reportage of events and solicited their support to enable the Speaker to excel.
Alhaji Aliyu Jibo, the Chairman of the chapel, who received the items on behalf of the chapel, thanked the speaker for the gesture, saying that they would go a long way to assist members at their secretariat.
The items are: A set of computer, one television, one generator and N200, 000 cash for payment of one year rent of the chapel’s secretariat.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dogara, 49, and a lawyer, is representing Bogoro/ Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. (NAN)
