Abuja – Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has directed House Committees on Diaspora, Foreign Affairs, Sports and Commerce to liaise with Nigerians in Diaspora to harness their potentials for national development.
The speaker gave the directive when he received a delegation of some Nigerian boxers led by Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Diaspora Direct Investment Summit, Mr Bimbo Folayan, in Abuja on Tuesday.
Dogara promised the delegation which comprised two thriving Nigerian boxers resident in United Kingdom that the parliament would do all within its power to promote Nigerians doing well all over the world.

I will direct all relevant committees of the House, including Diaspora, Foreign Affairs, Sports, Commerce to develop a model to appropriately respond to the situation we are faced with.
“Potential is meant to be developed; it is just like pouring sugar in a cup. It is potentially sweet but if you don’t stir it, you won’t get its full potential.
“If we don’t invest in this potential and stir them, we will not be able to get everything we could have achieved from them”, Dogara said.
Earlier, Afolayan informed the speaker that two boxers, welter weight boxing champions based in United Kingdom, had failed in spite of several attempts to get Nigerian government to support them.
He said that boxers were aspiring to reach higher titles under the Nigerian colours.
Afolayan, therefore, appealed to the speaker to encourage relevant agencies of government to help develop the Nigerian boxers to become world class.
“This will enable Nigeria to be ranked among countries with high ranking boxers and also draw direct investment to Nigeria through sports”, he said. (NAN)
