Dutse – A lecturer at the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa, Dr Abdulhakeem Adejumoh, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts in resolving the political imbroglio in The Gambia.
Adejumoh, who teaches political science at the institution, gave the commendation in Dutse on Sunday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The don also praised other West African leaders for their determination to unlock the political logjam in that country.
‘’There is nothing as good as peace. I am urging leaders of ECOWAS to continue to use diplomacy in tackling the crisis of The Gambia to avoid violence that may lead to killings of innocent citizens.
‘’I don’t want what happened in Ivory Coast where a lot of civilians were killed during the leadership crisis between former President Laurent Gbagbo and President Alassane Ouattara, ’’ he said.
According to him, the leaders should not relent in their efforts in exhausting all possible means in the next few days left to convince the outgoing Gambian President Yahya Jammeh to step down for Mr Adama Barrow, the President-elect.
He advised all workers’ unions in the West African country to halt their services in protest of Jammeh`s adamant posture in the political crisis.
