Adebamowo made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.
He said that such initiative was a common practice in advanced countries which helped to develop the building industry.
He said a recent design workshop, with the theme “Lighting the Global Workspace’’ in which his students participated, was sponsored by a German company, Zumtobel Lighting in collaboration with Aedes Network Campus, Berlin.
“The industry needs to partner with the universities because the university is a centre for research.
“This is also what we find happening in the international world; most researches that are done by the universities are sponsored by the industry because they are the end-users.
“We need to see that happening in Nigeria, particularly in the building industry where construction giants like Julius Berger, Cappa and D’Alberto among others work; this is what they should be involved in,” he said.
The Professor of Architecture said that research supported by industry players would attract quicker implementation of results as it would enhance their productivity and in turn, the economy.
“So, I will use this opportunity to call on our building industry, the workshopgiants and all the professionals, especially those engaged in the practical use of our design that this is the time to actually partner with the university.
“There are several other researches that are going on that are beneficial to mankind,’’ he added.
Adebamowo said the management of UNILAG led by its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rahman Bello, recognised the participating team for its outstanding presentation titled “Strings of Light’’ in the international workshop.
The participants to the workshop include Abimbola Omotunde, Abiodun Olowu and Mauton Whenu.
The two faculty members that took part in it are Prof. Michael Adebamowo and an engineer, Mr Tokunbo Sangowawa. (NAN)
