Osogbo – Religious leaders have been urged to assist the Federal Government in the fight against corruption in the country.
Prof. Abdul-Hafeez Oladosu, lecturer in Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, made the call at pre-Ramadan lecture organised by Muslim Community of Fountain University, Osogbo on Friday.
He said if Muslim and Christian clerics joined the anti-corruption war, the country would be better for it.
The don spoke on Ramadan as an Instrument of Change in a Corrupt Society.’’
He said since religious leaders have influence on their followers, they should use such influence to teach them to shun corrupt practices and be honest in their dealings.
Oladosu said the anti-corruption war should not be seen as the responsibility of the federal government alone, adding that all hands must be on deck to tackle the menace.
“Corruption is a global problem and wherever you go in any part of the world, you will find it there.
“Corruption has become endemic in Nigeria and it is good that the current administration of President Buhari is combating the menace.’’
He said “we have petty corruption, systemic corruption and spiritual corruption.
“The spiritual corruption is the most delicate because it is when people are corrupt spiritually that they would keep amassing wealth that they do not even need”, he said. (NAN)
