Ibadan – Prof. Oladipo Akinkugbe, the Chairman of Board of Trustees of Nigeria Society for Information Arts and Culture (NSIAC), has called on Nigerians to celebrtate their great men and women.
Akinkugbe, who is Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Education, made the call in an inteview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sideline of the induction ceremony of Dr. Oba Otudeko into the society’s Honours Roll.
He said that such celebration would spur them to do more for the society and also make other Nigerians to make efforts to emulate them by impacting the society positively.
He said that Otudeko was a wealthy businessman in the society who had been making significant impact on his immediate community and the nation as a whole.
“Not many wealthy men and women in Nigeria today can impact their society the way Otudeko has been doing.
“As the chairman, Honeywell Group, Oba Otudeko has gone beyond measure in putting smiles on people’s face.
“He is being inducted today into NSIAC Honours Roll in special recognition of his outstanding support to the aims and objectives of the Nigeria Society for Arts and Culture,” he said.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Emeritus Professor Ayo Banjo, a former Vice chancellor of University of Ibadan, said the Honours Roll was a place where men and women who had contributed immensely to their society were appreciated and celebrated.
Banjo, who is also the President of NSIAC, congratulated the recipient for the award and advised that he should not relent in his contributions to society.
He said one of the aims of the NSIAC was to project to society all the values of arts and culture in the society.
“When we talk about the value of arts and culture to society, we always start with its intrinsic value, how arts and culture can illuminate our inner lives and enrich our emotional world.
“We also are aware that arts and culture have a wider, more measureable impact on our economy, health and well-being, society and education,” he said.
Banjo said that art and culture were strategic national resources to the nation.
Mr Kolade Mosuro, the Vice-President NSIAC said NSIAC would continue to make her contribution to the promotion of arts and culture in the South West.
He said the importance of our arts and culture in this part of Nigeria could not be over-emphasised, stressing that Yoruba arts and culture were rich and deep. (NAN)
