KADUNA – Malam Sulaiman Shehu, a lecturer in the Department of History, Kaduna State University, on Tuesday called on political parties to always allow internal democracy to prevail in their election processes.
Shehu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna that applying internal democracy would make the political parties stronger and more relaible.
The lecturer said democracy within the political parties would always produce the best candidates for the electorate.
According to him, political parties should desist from hand picking candidates because such practice will breed contempt among the electorate.
He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to give all the parties a level-playing ground during the 2015 general elections.
“INEC has performed credibly well in Osun and Ekiti governorship elections where the aspiration of the people has prevailed.
“So the expectation of the electorate is high on credible, fair, free and credible election in 2015.”
The lecturer cautioned politicians with sectarian interests and urged the electorate to vote for those who could represent them properly.
The don urged youths to shun violence and not to be used by politicians as thugs.
Shehu urged Nigerians to continue to pray for peace in the country and to witness fair, free and credible election in 2015. (NAN)
