LAGOS – A psychologist at the University of Lagos, Dr Festus Adeyeye, on Friday, emphasised the need for sports federations and state sports councils to employ psychologists.
Adeyeye told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the engagement of the services of sports psychologists would help develop sports in the country.
“All the 25 or 28 sporting associations in the country are supposed to have one psychologist each.

“The sports psychologists should be able to carry out research on every athlete to know how to help them improve their games.
“Right now, Nigeria does not know the value of sports psychologists and so we are not using them.
“We only conduct researches in the university and we end up allowing the researches to gather dust on our shelves.
“Not even the state sports councils in Nigeria engage the services of sports psychologists.“ (NAN)
