Don urges sports federations to employ sports psychologists

LAGOS – A psychologist at the University of Lagos, Dr Festus Adeyeye, on Friday, emphasised the need for federations and state councils employ psychologists.

Adeyeye told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the engagement of the services of psychologists would help develop in the country.

“All the 25 or 28 sporting associations in the country are supposed have one psychologist each.


“The psychologists should be able carry out research on every athlete know how help them improve their games.

“Right now, Nigeria does not know the value of sports psychologists and so we are not using them.

“We only conduct researches in the university and we end up allowing the researches to gather dust on our shelves.

“Not even the state sports councils in Nigeria engage the services of sports psychologists.“ (NAN)
